I Would Rather Play With My Kids Than Negotiate My Fees

I would rather play with my kids than negotiate my fees.
A prospect asked me recently if I could lower my rate to "help them get started."
I said no.
Now, full disclosure: I do negotiate... sometimes.
Discount vs. Deal
But there is a difference between a "Discount" and a "Deal."
If you ask for a discount just because you want to pay less, the answer is no.
Opportunity Cost Is My Family
At this stage of my life, my "Opportunity Cost" is my family.
Every hour I discount is an hour I'm never going to have again with them at this time in their life.
When I Negotiate – Terms, Not Price
However, I will negotiate if the TERMS change.
✅ You want to pay 12 months upfront? Let's talk.
✅ You waive the 24/7 direct access between sessions? The price drops.
✅ You are a non-profit or a cause I believe in? I'll invest in you.
Amateurs Negotiate Price. Pros Negotiate Terms.
The Lesson: Amateurs negotiate Price (Desperation). Pros negotiate Terms (Strategy).
Never Lower Your Value – Adjust the Package
If you are a business owner, stop giving away your margin just because someone asked.
If they want a lower price, they need to give you something back (Time, Speed, or Scope).
Never lower your value. Simply adjust the package.
Time with your kids is worth full price.
It's a win/win for us both, or a simple no, thank you.
